Week 5 Recap
With the final regular season games coming to a close we have our playoff standings set. As a reminder, playoffs are single elimination. 1st and 2nd place teams will be playing an exhibition match this coming Sunday as they have a “bye” in the first round. 3rd place will be playing 6th place and 4th place will be playing 5th place. The winners will advance to the semi finals and the losers will play a competitive game for 5th place.
There was a 3 way tie for first, so the final standings were determined by point differential.
- Tic Tac Toe (+63)
- Shoot by Faith, Not By Sight (+20)
- Dunkin Donuts (+11)
- Floppies
- Slackers
- Oops Wrong League

Week 5 Highlights:
- Joshua LePenske is a breath of fresh air to take the scoring title this week, dropping cashing in on 26 points while shooting 50% from behind the arc
- Greg Ellingson led his team in 3pt attempts, but it paid off as he got this week’s shooting title with 4 made shots from deep
- Building on his performance from last week, Ryno Moore stole the ball 6 times in a magnificent defensive effort to help his team get the W
- Nathan Brummett narrowly missed the scoring title, but he still makes our weekly highlight by outdoing his dad’s previous rebounding record by grabbing 22 boards
- It took a little while, but Justin Philobos has made an appearance on our weekly highlights again, doing one of the things he does best: making the right pass, tallying 4 assists
- Captain Tyler Bernth makes our highlights this week leading our league with 3 blocks, one of the rarest stat categories to tally. I would also like to take this time to point out that Tyler shot his first 3 pointer in 8 seasons (not counting the all-star game).
- Matias Seccombe mentioned not wanting to be mentioned in the highlights at all, so you all know I had to do it (just one time as Kai Husen likes to say). He shot a healthy 23% from the field and 11% from behind the arc. Maybe he should have kept his flowing locks?
- It was a wild last night of regular season games. Shoot By Faith, Not By Sight was sitting comfortable in first place all season and had a healthy lead in point differential, but their 29 point loss to the Tic Tac Toe’s has toppled them into 2nd place. While B was sipping on Mai Tais in Hawaii, his team was struggling to keep up with the relentless attack of Nathan Brummett and Timothy Johnson who both notched 25 points for their team in the highest scoring game of the season. Andrue Henson put in a valiant effort for his team with 21 points, but it’s possible that the pasta wasn’t the best choice for the team lunch Tyler planned for his team as he and Collin Day looked a little sluggish. <insert Michael Scott “carbo loading” gif here>
- The Slackers were, unsurprisingly, shorthanded again and were unable to overcome the youth and boundless energy of the Dunkin Donuts. Their team struggled to create offense, as they shot 30% from the field as a team. Justin Philobos and Jacob Brummett have done a great job coaching their team and it showed with another win, and in the box score with Joshua LePenske taking more shots inside the 3pt line than behind it. Aaron Slack suffered a knee injury on his bad knee but was able to return to the game to try and spark some offense, hopefully he will be healthy for the rematch against the one team his team beat this season.
- The floppies were able to keep Oops Wrong League winless for the season through tough defense, keeping the latter team to 25.4% shooting from the field. Despite having a sloppy first half, the floppies were able to clean it up in the second. Scott Brummett was held to 3 rebounds instead of his 2 game average of 16.5, and Zac Phororo was limited to 17 points. Ryan Holmes is the first player to foul out this season as his father cheered from the other side.
- Some storylines to watch out for:
- Will Oops Wrong League get their first win this season to advance to the semi finals?
- Can Jacob Brummett reach the finals again and ultimately claim the championship that has been so deftly eluding him?
- Will Sawyer McKenzie accomplish his team’s namesake and claim his 3peat?
