Weekly Encouragement:

My question for us to reflect on today is what or who do we hope in?

Now, first I think that we need to understand what hope even means. Hope is not
merely wishful thinking or optimism. Wishful thinking and optimism quickly
disappear when life slaps us in the face. And as we all know, life will hit us
hard at some point in our lives. We all experience challenges in our
relationships, financial struggles, health concerns, career difficulties, school
frustrations, you name it. I am sure each one of us can relate to some degree or
another. And again if we are relying on optimism to get us through that time, it
is just not going to work.

Now on hope. Hope is different. Hope is confident and assured. Hope patiently
waits for what it knows will eventually happen. Hope knows that things will
change and will get better, eventually. For those of use who are Christians, our
hope comes from our faith in God. We know that our time on this earth will not
always be easy and we are going to have to endure suffering. Our confidence is
not that circumstances will always be easy. Again, sometimes life just sucks. We
believe and hope in the fact that God is eventually going to make everything
right, the way it should be. We believe that we can trust, not in our
circumstances, but in the One who has control over those circumstances.

Psalm 42:11 says; “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil
within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God”.
God, who created the universe, has your best interests in mind. Now, I know for
many of us it may not seem like it. Our circumstances may be telling us
something completely different. I don’t want to minimize that.

So to address that I would refer to Jeremiah 29:11. In that verse God says “For
I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for welfare and not for
evil, to give you a future and a hope”. So briefly, the context of when God said
this was to His people who were living in exile at the time. I am sure it didn’t
seem to them like God was with them or had their welfare in mind. Their
circumstances told them a different story. They, like many of us, needed to
remind themselves of God’s character and what He says rather than believing what
their circumstances were telling them. God had been faithful to them before and
He promised to be faithful to them again. That is why they could place their
hope in Him.

For those of us who are Christians, my prayer is that we would all be encouraged
to hope and trust in God and not in our circumstances. God is faithful to
fulfill His promises, even when it might not seem like it. I also pray that, if
you don’t know Him now, you would come to know Him and learn to place your hope
in the one who created you and has your best interests in mind.

Fun stats:

The last game of the regular season was a shooting clinic!
Somehow, both teams’ combined FG% and 3pt% was LESS than their FT%. For the
curious: the teams combined for 18.26% shooting from the field and 10.71% from
behind the arc, largely thanks to Sawyer and Jacob as they combined 1 for 19
from three point range. This is what happens when you have kids I guess.

Week 7 Schedule (4/19):

5:30 PM: Matt and the Missed Opportunities vs. Goon Squad
Cloudy with a Chance of Airballs: Joshua Hefferan Gabriel Lara Omar Lara

6:30 PM: Cloudy with a Chance of Airballs vs. Tyler’s Heroes
Noah’s Ark: Jack Holmes Noah Andrade Kai Husen

7:30 PM: Justin Time vs. Noah’s Ark
Tyler’s Heroes: Brandon Porras Collin Day Zack Pierce

Weekly Shoutouts:
* In our last week of the regular season our leading scorer was a new face.
Ethan Sewell had 24 points to lead the league for the first time. Following
closely behind him were Josh Hefferan and Noah Andrade who put up 21 points a
piece.
* Sawyer McKenzie led out in both rebounds and blocks with 13 and 3
respectively.
* Noah Andrade recorded yet another double-double with 11 rebounds to go along
with his 21 points. Kailen Green also put up a double-double with 13 points
and 12 rebounds.

Weekly Recap:
* In our first game of the day Tyler’s Heroes were able to get the edge over
Cloudy with a Chance of Airballs, with a final score of 64-53. Notable
contributors on Tyler’s team were Tyler himself (8 points, 8 rebounds, 3
assists, 1 steal, and 1 block), Zack Pierce (8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals),
Alec Frank (20 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block), and
Michael Van Egmond (20 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block). This continues Tyler’s
usual trend of consistently drafting teams with contributions across the
board. Josh Hefferan (21 points, 7 rebounds) did what he could to keep his
team in the game but that proved too challenging without captain Jackson
Thompson and only 5 players. These two teams will be facing off again in our
6:30pm match-up next week.
* Balling for God vs. Justin Time proved to be another close one with Balling
for God winning with a final score of 58-48. Balling for God was eager to get
a win to secure the coveted 1st round playoff bye and were able to do so
behind Ethal Sewell’s 24 point performance. As a team Justin Time was able to
make more threes than Balling for God, but what really proved to be the
difference was Balling for God converting their two point attempts as well as
opportunities at the foul line (9 for 11). They will now enjoy a bye week
next week.
* Our final game of the regular season proved to be the lowest scoring game of
the entire season. Who knew a team could score 31 points and still win by 8?
This was probably an extremely boring game for fans to watch as both teams
shot poorly and played in a zone for much of the game. Man, we must be
getting old. The difference maker proved to be Noah Andrade who converted 8
out of his 11 two point attempts along with 11 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1
block. For many of the players (well mostly Jacob Brummett) they would like
to strike the stats of this game from the official record. Maybe Kevin will
do so out of gratitude for all the weekly emails. Final score was Noah’s Ark
31, Goon Squad 23. Noah’s Ark will look to continue their win streak as they
go up against Justin Time at 7:30pm on Sunday, while Goon Squad will look to
bounce back against Matt and the Missed Opportunities in our 5:30pm
match-up.

See you all on Sunday!
