Week 7 Recap
Happy Monday!
Thank you to all the captains for holding it down while I was gone yesterday. If
it wasn’t mentioned yesterday, we will not be hosting any Allstar events this
year unfortunately. So Sunday will just be the Championship game. I need
volunteers to do the stats/scoreboard and will also need help with Gym Teardown
before the game. Please reply to this email if you’re available.
Finals Preview:
Captain Justin Philobos makes his return to the finals with hopes to secure his
second championship in a row after an undefeated season. 99 Problems but a Swish
Ain’t One was way too long of a name so it was rarely typed out fully, but there
it is. I don’t know how many swishes they actually got during the season, but
their record speaks for itself. Despite needing to sign a free agent week 2 in
Tylor McGaughey, the team gelled quickly, led by Nathan Brummett’s 157 season
points. As a team, they led the league in Assists and Blocks. Justin picked
Jacob Brummett’s team to face in the semi-finals so that Nathan could have
another shot at beating his brother. I don’t know how many more matchups we will
get between the two, but I believe Nathan currently has the higher win share. I
wonder if Jacob regrets his decision not to keep his tradition of naming his
brother as his co-captain this season? Shout out to Justin for leading the
league in 3pt % until he went 1/5 in the last two weeks from deep.
Justin faces 2nd year captain Ricky Dorn, who gets to the finals after a
disappointing 1st round exit last season. As a team, the Dorns in My Side led
the league in Points, 2pts made, FT%, FT Made, and rebounds. Fun fact: Ricky
used to accidentally call Justin at least once a year (wrong Justin), but now
Ricky calls Justin for medical advice on purpose. This team is a well rounded
team, with bigs who rebound and play down low, energetic wings who have high
motors and strong finishing, and shooters who will take and make the highest
percentage shot (not just the highest scoring shot). Thomas and
Jonathan Cabral didn’t make it to the draft night, so Ricky took a flyer on
drafting them and he is glad he did, as they have provided a strong support to
Brandon Cunningham (188 pts) and Marquis Hogue (77 rebounds) both offensively
and defensively. Shout out to Steven Kim who went from a winless last season to
competing in the Championship game this season for the first time in his JDI
Sports career.

No stats highlights for this week because I didn’t like what I saw (and
overheard when I tuned into the livestream) 👀
