Week 3 Recap
Good morning everyone,
Happy Wednesday, hoping everyone’s week is off to a good start.
Weekly Thought:
I don’t know about you but for me life is really busy right now. I feel like
every week and weekend is packed and the days just fly by. I’m so tempted to
just say that “this is how life is supposed to be”, however I’ve been challenged
on that mentality lately.
I am currently reading this book called “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry” by
John Mark Comer. If you like to read and are looking for something I highly
recommend. Anyways, as I’m reading this book it’s pointing out to me how busy
and cluttered my life is and how unhealthy that lifestyle actually is. Tasks and
responsibilities constantly piling up takes me away from being present in the
moment and actually enjoying anything out of life. A helpful quote I’ve heard is
“be where your feet are” and I so often fail to do this. Sometimes I feel that I
“can’t” be present because I have too much to do. That sounds crazy to me as I
think about it. Like what’s the point of doing anything if I feel that I am too
busy to actually focus on the thing I’m doing?
What I am learning is the importance of decluttering not only our stuff but also
our time. For all of us there are so many things competing for our time and
attention. This book that I mentioned earlier talks about the importance of
running a cost-benefit analysis when you purchase or commit to something.
Meaning we should consider not just how much money it will cost but also how
much time and attention it will cost us. The author says “Every single thing you
buy costs you not only money but also time”. This really hits home to me. So I’m
trying to improve at facing the reality that every purchase I make and thing I
commit to has a price beyond just the money. My challenge for myself is to take
the time to consider if that price is worth the time and attention it will take.
Just a few things I thought I’d share with you guys this week. Now onto
basketball:
Week 4 Schedule:
* 5:30 PM — Dorns in My Side vs. He is Rizzen (Airballers Anonymous: Dean,
Joshua, Greg)
* 6:30 PM — Airballers vs. Underdogish (He is Rizzen: Quintan, Tobias, Josh)
* 7:30 PM — Ol’ Dogs and New Tricks vs. 99 Problems (Underdogish: Trevor,
Jessica, Kai)
* Bye Week — Energizer Bunnies
Weekly Stat Leaders:
* Anthony Holloway led the league in scoring this week with an impressive 29
points to go along with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals to help lead his
team to a thrilling comeback win over Airballers Anonymous. Joey Zoller (26
points), Greg Ellingson (19 points), Joshua Hefferan (18 points) and Ryno
Moore (20 points) also put up strong scoring performances in the highest
scoring game I think I’ve seen in this league (Kevin feel free to fact check
me on this).
* Both Ryan Holmes (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Trevor Couch (11 points, 15
rebounds) put up double-doubles to lead Underdogish to their first win.
* Special shoutout to Michael Manthorp who put up an impressive 8 rebounds, 3
assists, 3 steals, and 5 blocks. For anyone who knows Michael, you know he
throws a block party at least once a season, and this was the week. We’ll
have to wait and see if he has another one planned for later in the season.
Weekly Recap
* 99 Problems continued their winning streak with a victory over Energizer
Bunnies behind the scoring of Nathan Brummett and Justin Philobos along with
Michael Manthorp’s previously mentioned block party. Energizer Bunnies shared
the rock and put up a very balanced scoring and rebounding effort, but we’re
unable to overcome the talented 99 Problems squad. Final score 57-41.
* He is Rizzen and Airballers Anonymous gave fans a thriller that went down to
the wire with He is Rizzen coming back from down double digits after
Airballers Anonymous sustained some key injuries. This game featured five
players scoring 18 points or more! Final score of 75-71.
* Underdogish squeaked out a win over Ol’ Dogs and New Tricks in a game that
could not have been more opposite to the high-scoring thriller prior. Final
score 38-33. I believe this game was what some would classify as “a great
defensive game”. Captain Jacob Brummett is thankful to finally get a win
after losing 9 games straight… Yikes!
