Week 1 Recap

Good morning everyone,

I apologize for the delay in sending this email. I’ve been sick and it has been
a hectic week, but I’m feeling much better now, thankfully. For those who
haven’t met me yet, my name is Jacob Brummett. I am one of the team captains and
responsible for the weekly emails.

These emails will include a weekly thought that I hope will be beneficial to you
as you go through your week, the schedule for the upcoming week, weekly stat
leaders, and a recap of the games from the previous week.

Weekly Thought:

For those who don’t know me, I have two sons—Judah, who is 2, and Levi, who is 9
months old. I mention this because we are currently navigating Judah’s “terrible
twos,” a stage with LOTS of emotions. LOTS. They can be quite the challenge to
navigate at times. However, don’t get me wrong, parenting at this age comes with
many great moments too.

I’d like to share one such moment. We have a children’s book that teaches kids
to identify their emotions and ask God for help with them. Given that we are
frequently dealing with toddler emotions, I’ve been trying to use the lessons
from this book to teach him to ask God for help when he’s struggling with a
strong emotion. It’s been really cool to see him pray in his 2-year-old voice as
he is working through calming down.

This made me reflect on how often I fail to do the very thing I am trying to
teach him to do. I recognize the many times when I feel stressed, frustrated, or
angry and neglect to talk to God about those emotions or to seek His guidance.

“Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the
righteous to be moved.” — Psalm 55:22

We are instructed here to cast our burdens on the Lord and my challenge for
myself is to be better at that.

I hope this thought encourages you, and I pray everyone has a blessed rest of
their week!

Week 2 Schedule:

* 5:30 PM — Ol’ Dogs and New Tricks vs. Energizer Bunnies (Underdogish: Ryan,
Ethan, Jessica)

* 6:30 PM — Underdogish vs. Dorns in My Side (Ol’ Dogs and New Tricks: Jackson,
Kaleb, James)

* 7:30 PM — 99 Problems vs. He is Rizzen (Dorns in My Side: Kristen, Thomas,
Johnathan)

Weekly Stat Leaders:

* We had several players scoring over 20 points this week, but Brandon
Cunningham ended up clinching the scoring title with 24 points.
* Jackson Thompson also deserves a shout-out for his solid all-around
performance with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 block.
* Other notable performances came from newcomers Jason Turner (12 points, 6
rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block) and Joey Zoller (22 points, 7
rebounds, and 2 assists).

Weekly Recap

* The Energizer Bunnies secured their first win of the season despite only
having five players show up. They were led by Tyler Sewell’s 21 points and
Captain Tyler Bernth’s usual strong performance (11 points, 9 rebounds, 2
blocks), achieving an 8-point victory over Underdogish. Final score: 51-43.
* 99 Problems and Dorns in My Side was a highly anticipated matchup between
Nathan Brummett and Brandon Cunningham. While Brandon secured the scoring
title for week one, Nathan led his team to a 4-point win. Rumor has it that
in Nathan’s post-game interview, he credited his older brother for teaching
him everything he knew.
* In our late game, Airballers Anonymous got the win over Ol’ Dogs and New
Tricks behind newcomer Joey Zoeller’s 22 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists.
Jackson Thompson attempted to lead the Ol’ Dogs, who were missing their
captain Aaron Slack, by putting up an impressive stat line of 17 points, 10
rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 block but that did not prove enough. Final score
55 – 49.
