Week 6 Recap
Good morning everyone,
Weekly Thought:
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” Psalm 20:7.
I’m sure most of you have heard your fair share of political takes over the past election season, so I promise you I will not give mine. My main goal in sharing this week is to remind us where our trust should be. If you are happy with the election results, or if you are not, the same rule applies. We are to trust in the Lord, not in “chariots and horses”.
What I am not saying is that we should not be involved or that elections don’t impact the lives of people. I think that paying attention and being involved in these things are an important part of our privilege as Americans. What I am saying, though, is that God is still on the throne.
If all your hopes were contingent on this election and it did not go your way, and you feel hopeless, then your hope is misplaced, my friend. AND if all your hopes were contingent on this election, and it did go your way, and you are finding yourself leaning on God less than you were before, then your hope is also misplaced, my friend.
It’s human nature to rely on God when things are hard and forget about him when things are going well. Personally, I was encouraged by the election results. Which, in a way, is more dangerous because it is easier for me to forget God and trust in people and government. To counter this, I know that I need to continually remind myself that God is forever on the throne and that I need to place my trust in him and him alone when things go the way I want them to and when things go the exact opposite way.
Finally, maybe you hate politics, and you’re just happy the election is over so you can stop hearing people argue, seeing political ads, and getting spam mailers. But for you where is your hope? Maybe it’s your paycheck, your status, or your personal happiness. Or maybe it’s something different.
Regardless of where we are tempted to place our hope, my prayer for all of us is this:
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13
That joy and peace can truly only be found in surrendering and trusting in the creator of the universe who laid the foundations of the earth and is ALWAYS active and in control of the world.

Weekly Stat Leaders:
- Tyler Sewell beat out the rest of the league for leading scorer this week with an impressive 31 points on 48% shooting.
- HomesCOOLers as a team earned a shot out for their rebounding this week. Brent Pellens had 12, Justin Philobos had 16, and Alekz Law with 12. HomesCOOLers really seem to be clicking as a team going into the semi-finals this weekend.
- Brandon Cunningham again put up a league-leading stat line with 29 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks.
- Trevor Couch led the league in rebounds this week once again, with 20 rebounds to go along with his 14 points.
- Final shout-out goes to our league emperor Kevin Du, who put up 16 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1 steal. Long live the emperor!
Weekly Recap:
- The exhibition game between our league leaders proved a competitive one as they fought for the ability to pick their opponent for the semi-finals this week. Alekz and the HomesCOOLers were able to secure the win and their choice of opponent. Tyler Sewell’s high scoring, along with the team’s growing team chemistry, were just enough to get the victory over the Couch Potatoes. Couch Potatoes were handed their first loss, and I’m sure they will be looking for revenge in a possible finals matchup. Final score 72-70.
- Boats and Bros handed Prodigal Suns and Luna yet another loss to earn a spot in the semi-final. Captain Aaron Slack’s 18 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks led his team to a victory over the struggling Prodigal Suns and Luna. Final score 67-41.
- The Holmies were able to get the win over Bricklayers Union to also advance to the semis. Timothy Johnson and Ryan Holmes combined for 41 of the team’s 53 points to secure that win. Final score 53-42.
