Week 2 Recap
Good morning everyone,
Happy Thursday. So much for my goal to get out the emails by Wednesday morning
each week… Anyway, I hope you enjoy this week’s email:
Weekly Thought:
Recently, I have been hearing an increasing use of the term “the next right
step”. Maybe it’s growing more popular, or maybe it’s just stuck in my
algorithm. Either way, much of the content I consume has been focused on
challenging those listening to identify what their next right step is.
The idea is simple: instead of spending most of my time focused on how far the
top of the mountain I need to climb is, I shift my focus to what is directly in
front of me, that “next right step”.
I am finding this to be very encouraging as I try to put it into practice. Life
can be stressful and overwhelming, often without a clear end in sight or even an
obvious path forward. Since we can’t predict the future, many times the best
thing we can do is to simply identify the next right thing—and to do that
thing.
I hope this encourages some of you, as it has encouraged me. No matter what you
might be facing in life—marital challenges, financial insecurity, or feeling
distant in your relationship with God—pause for a minute and ask yourself what
the next right step is. Maybe it’s a small act of service toward your spouse,
revisiting your budget, or simply picking up your Bible for the first time in a
long time.
Now that single step may not feel like it accomplishes much in that moment. But
when we take those steps consistently over time, we often look back and realize
we’ve climbed a mountain that once felt impossible.
Week 3 Schedule:
* 5:30 PM — Matt and the Missed Opportunities vs. Goon Squad (Cloudy with a
Chance of Airballs: Gabriel Lara, Omar Lara, Michael Chapman)
* 6:30 PM — Cloudy with a Chance of Airballs vs. Justin Time (Tyler’s Heroes:
Sarah Van Egmond, Michael Van Egmond, Alekz Law)
* 7:30 PM — Noah’s Ark vs. Tyler’s Heroes (Justin Time: Ryan Holmes, Jonathan
Forte, Joshua LePenske)
Weekly Stat Leaders:
* We had a new leading scorer this week with Ryan Holmes dropping 31 points.
Ryan went an impressive 7 for 9 from inside the 3-point line and 5 for 7 from
outside 3-point land, along with shooting 100% from the foul line.
* Joey Zoller and Greg Ellingson tied for the most threes made this week with 6
each. They both shot high percentages, with Greg going 6 for 12 and Joey
going 6 for 9 from behind the arc.
* Our rebounding leader for this week was Noah Andrade, who secured 11 rebounds
to go along with 7 points.
* Other notable mentions are Collin Moffatt with 4 steals, along with our
assist leaders Jacob Heughes and Jayson Bohreer with 4 assists apiece.
Weekly Recap:
* Game 1 this week, we saw Goon Squad squeak out a victory against Tyler’s
Heroes. Final score was 49 to 45. Both teams saw contributions across the
board, but with only six players, Tyler’s Heroes didn’t have quite enough to
sustain what was needed to win.
* In our second game of the day, Balling for God used their youth and speed to
make easy work of Noah’s Ark with a final score of 54 to 41. Noah’s Ark
boasted a huge size advantage over Balling for God, but with that comes the
cost of less speed. Ryno Moore and Ethan Sewell used that to their advantage
to lead their team to victory.
* In the final game of the night, Matt and the Missed Opportunities decided not
to miss the opportunity this time around, scoring a season high 84 points to
achieve victory. Ryan Holmes put up a valiant effort for his team but
couldn’t hang with the dynamic duo of Joey and Tim. The two combined for 30
shot attempts and made 21 of them, equating to a 70% field goal percentage.
They are proving to be quite the combination this season, definitely
something for teams to watch out for. Final score was 84 to 66.
See you all on Sunday!
