Week 2 Recap
Good morning everyone,
Hope everyone has had a good week so far. Praying for all those impacted by Hurricane Helene and those bracing for Hurricane Milton. I hope everyone can take a minute today to pray as well.
Weekly Thought:
Yesterday was a long day for me and by the end of it I was burnt out. All I wanted to do was sit down, relax, and do something for myself. I finished putting my oldest son to bed and when I came downstairs I saw my wife frustrated because my youngest son was having a hard time getting to sleep and had been fussy most of the day. She had taken care of the kids all day and had a particularly challenging day as we had contractors working on our kitchen plumbing for a large portion of the day. She’d been taking care of them all day and she needed a well-deserved break.
So we talked a bit and she asked if I could try to rock him to sleep. I initially didn’t want to but knew that I should. She puts him to bed and gets up with him nightly when he needs to feed so I knew that this was something I could do to help her.
As I was finishing putting him to sleep something came to mind. The phrase “it is better to give than to receive”. I could honestly say that spending that time serving my wife and having some time with my son was far better and more refreshing than anything I could have done for myself.
This phrase comes from the words of Jesus quoted by Paul in Acts 20:35.So this morning I found an article on this verse that I found encouraging so I thought I would share some of it:
“Giving aligns with Jesus’ example and serves as a testament to the gospel. Jesus came to earth “not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28). Therefore, giving reflects Christlikeness and offers a way to live out the gospel with our resources. Christians are called to be generous because we serve a God who gives sacrificially (John 3:16).
Giving develops our character, fostering selflessness and countering the natural tendency toward self-centeredness. When we readily give of our money, time, talents, and gifts, we step beyond our little world and serve others. The generous person develops more virtues than the constant receiver and builds responsibility. Other virtues cultivated in our giving include compassion, kindness, joy, and love.
Furthermore, giving fosters contentment. When we generously offer our resources, we express satisfaction in God’s blessings and acknowledge Him as Ultimate Provider. While it is undoubtedly blessed to receive, it is even more blessed to give.”

- Ryno Moore put up an impressive stat line to lead his team to an overtime victory over Prodigal Suns and Luna. Ryno put up 24 points, 4 assists, and 6 steals. Ryno led the league in points, assists, and steals this week.
- Matias Seccombe had another impressive three-point shooting performance. 12 out of Matias’ 18 points came from beyond the arc. Matias is currently boasting an impressive 42.3% three point shooting percentage.
- Trevor Couch used his size to his advantage this week by securing 12 rebounds to assist in securing an overtime victory.
- Timothy Johnson secured a double double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, however that was not enough to will his team to victory.
Week 2 Recap:
- Boats and Bros were able to secure the victory of Bricklayers Union this week. Captain Aaron Slack’s 23 points and 7 rebounds proved just enough to edge Boats and Bros past Bricklayers U. Final score was 54-52.
- We saw another overtime game between Couch Potatoes and Prodigal Suns and Luna. Prodigal Suns and Luna were hit with a Kai Husen knee injury and foul outs from Jacob Brummett and Juan Cardenas resulting in overtime being 5 on 4. Ryno Moore was able to take advantage of this to lead his team to a second straight victory. Final score was 50-48.
- Finally Alexz and the HomesCOOLers won a close matchup against the Holmies. Matias Seccombe’s 3 point shooting along with solid scoring and rebounding performances from Brent Pellens and Tyler Sewell were able to overcome Timothy Johnson’s 19 points and 11 rebounds. Final score 55-52.
- This week had even matchups all around as each game was won by 3 points or less. Seems like we are up for a fun and competitive league this year!
- Our league emperor, Kevin Du, wanted me to point out that he was indeed right in a dispute he and Timothy Johnson had regarding Tim’s stats that Kevin recorded. Tim later demonstrated the humility to concede that Kevin was right. I think the lesson here for us all is that our emperor is always right.
See you all Sunday!
