- Our first scoring title of season 9 goes to Nathan Brummett who picks up right where he left off, tallying 19 points along with a dunk and a pair of nasty blocks
- Levi Henson starts his rookie season off strong, knocking down a league leading 4 shots from deep to go along with 18 points on 63.6% FG percentage
- Collin Day is in his sophomore season and started with a bang, leading all players with 12 rebounds
- To the surprise of no one, Ryno Moore continues to find cookies regardless of which team he’s on, nabbing 5 steals
- This might be a first for Michael Manthorp, who grabs the assist title for week 1 with 5 assists
- J’s got off to a hot start, going 10-0 against the Knights. However, a 12 minute scoring drought gave the Knights a chance to get their bearings and retake the lead and hold on to it for the rest of the game. The J’s had trouble finding the bottom of the net despite their moniker, ending with 23.6% shooting from the field. Captain Tyler Bernth was unable to carry on his hot shooting streak from last season from deep this week but next week could be a different story. Captain Jacob Brummett has decided to revisit the Team Brummett experiment from 2 seasons ago, and his version 2.0 looks quite spicy. While they only shot 13% from behind the arc, they generated 11 more shot attempts than the J’s due to the 18 steals they got as a team.
- Ricky Dorn, the captain of SJ96 decided to start his first season as a captain by flying to another country. Despite this, his team started off hot, and stayed hot to wallop captain Kai Husen’s team. As a team, they shot 44.1% from the field, which was the best team fg% for week 1. The StK team were able to rally back a bit in the 2nd half to bring the score to a respectable 11 point game before ultimately losing by 17. There wasn’t much drama to this game, and SJ96 will look to continue their hot shooting and StK will try to switch things up for their next opponents.
- Captain Sawyer McKenzie is back with a vengeance this season after his plans for a 3 peat were foiled last season. He’s looking more and more like his favorite player, Luka Doncic, every season, and he helped lead his team to victory with an efficient 13 pts, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals on 66.7% shooting. Run looks to be a very balanced team loaded with shooters, rebounders, and slashers, and they squeaked by with a 2 point victory over the HHHs. Captain Justin Philobos broke up with his co-captain from season 8 to start a new team with his wife instead. He took a big gamble during the draft by selecting 3 rookies who opted out of the CBL combine, and only time will tell if this will pay off for him in the end. Despite getting 4 attempts at tying or winning the game, they were unable to buy a bucket and will head into week 2 hungry for a win.
- As a league, our offensive numbers are down across the board compared to week 1 of season 8
